Roi Clarkson Colman (1884-1945), often spelled Roy, was a well-known American plein air landscape painter. He is particularly known for his California coast work, but lived in Texas from 1903 to 1911 and painted the West Texas desert landscape and old frontier military outposts, as well as Gulf Coast maritime views extensively during that time.
Colman is known for his portrayal of rich, luminous light, his visible palette knife textures, and his focus on the atmospheric shifts of sunrise and sunset.
