Shako Hat Plate "Republic of Texas Navy" c. 1836

$3,300.00
DESCRIPTION

Shako hat plate with the inscription "Republic of Texas Navy" circa 1836. Discovered in 1971 in Galveston, TX after Hurricane Edith.

These Naval insignias were probably stored in the warehouse of McKinney & Williams – a pair of merchants/financiers/arms dealers that supported the Texas revolution – for use by the Texas Navy. The warehouse was destroyed in the hurricane, and these insignias were never sold to the Texas Navy.

With raised Republic of Texas Navy arching around the iconic rope & anchor imagery in the center, this metal hat plate has a hole in each corner for the screws.

DETAILS & MEASUREMENTS
  • Measures 2 1/2" x 2"

  • Good condition, with light wear & scratches visible
