An incredibly unique piece of art by well-known Texas rodeo life artist George Edward “Pepper” Brown, this double-sided pencil offers both a group of cowboys on horseback on one side and an enigmatic skeletal figure reaching forward and carrying a fan.
Signed on the four horsemen side, and labeled “rib cage dancer” on the reverse.
George Edward “Pepper” Brown (1926-1999) was raised on the Haley-Brown ranch outside Alpine, Texas near Cathedral Mountain and began painting as a teen. Known for his rodeo and cowboy culture themes as well as West Texas landscapes, he primarily focused on watercolors, ink drawings, and paintings. Brown often captured famous mid-century rodeo champions, calf ropers, and saddle bronc riders, and later opened an art school called “Pepper’s Paint Brush” in Marfa, Texas.
